CALLAWASSIE, S.C. -- Senior Anna Kim jumped one spot on Sunday to close out an impressive BIG EAST career with a second place finish at the BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship at the Callawassie Island Golf Club.
"It's bittersweet," Kim said about placing second in her final tournament. "I had an amazing time playing for this team and I'm really excited to start a new chapter in my life."
As a team, the Red Storm secured fifth with a three-round total of 992 (+128), which was three strokes better than Creighton.
Kim wrapped up the final round 4-over par to finish with a score of 225 (+9) for the tournament. The two-time First Team All-BIG EAST selection now has two runner-up trophies at the conference tournament as she placed second in 2014 during her sophomore campaign.
"Anna had a nice tournament this week," head coach Ambry Bishop said. "I know her goal was to win, but she still pulled out a strong finish. This wasn't her best week of play on a tough Callawassie Island golf course, but she still showed why she is one of the top players in the BIG EAST by closing out the tournament as the runner-up."
Despite the second place result, Kim felt she did not play her best as she came up three strokes shy of a championship. Shane Crutchfield of Xavier took home the honors after posting a 6-over par (222).
"My game wasn't the best this week," Kim added. "I struggled a bit with everything, but I managed to really grind it out on the golf course until the end."
One of the most renowned golfers in program history, Kim concludes her BIG EAST career with three All-BIG EAST selections, three top-seven finishes at the conference tournament and four career-medals. Earlier this season, she joined former classmate Harin Lee as the only players in school history to win at least three medals.
Kirsty Beckwith showed no signs of being a rookie in her first-career BIG EAST tournament. The freshman from England saved her best performance for last, shooting a 5-over par final round to climb two spots on the leaderboard and secure an 11th place finish with a score of 238 (+22).
"It was a great confidence boost ending my freshman year strong," Beckwith said about her play. "I had a good season and I was happy to be playing at the No. 2 as a freshman. I'm very excited to see what I can achieve next season."
Junior Saskia Sterud placed 22nd after carding a 250 (+34) for the event.
Seton Hall clinched its third-straight team title with a team score of 935 (+71), while Georgetown and Xavier rounded out the top-three spots on the team leaderboard.
