MLB DRAFT DAY THREE: Reds Take Blankmeyer In 36th Round

QUEENS, N.Y. - Infielder Ty Blankmeyer was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 36th round (1,068th overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft as St. John's finished with two players drafted in the three-day event.
St. John's has now totaled 19 draft picks in the past five years as Blankmeyer was joined in the 2016 draft class by Thomas Hackimer, who was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round (123rd overall).
Blankmeyer appeared in 128 games, including 73 starts, in four seasons with the Red Storm and scored 48 runs to go with four doubles, 25 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 15 attempts.
The infielder posted a career-high .408 on-base percentage this past season, while batting .241 with two doubles, five RBI and 11 runs scored.
After winning the 2015 Rawlings "Finest In The Field" Award as the top defensive second baseman in the Northwoods League, Blankmeyer went on to register a career-high .984 fielding percentage for the Red Storm in 2016. The infielder posted a combined .980 fielding percentage in the past two collegiate seasons.
