St. John's Completes Sweep of LIU Brooklyn and Hofstra

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- The St. John's women's tennis team (5-1) shut out both LIU Brooklyn (2-1) and Hofstra (3-3) in a doubleheader at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., on Friday.
Head Coach Lauren Leo and her squad first took on local foe LIU Brooklyn on Friday afternoon, topping the Blackbirds quickly, 7-0.
Stephanie Elgegren and Jaide Collins got things going for the Red Storm as the duo cruised to victory, 6-1, over Leonte and Wagener. At the No. 1 position, Anna Morozova and Jessica Livianu improved to 6-2 on the year with a 6-3 win over Grigoryan and Leysen to clinch the doubles point.
Zofia Stanisz and Olaya Inclan also came up with a win at the No. 2 doubles spot, 7-5.
In singles action, No. 49 Livianu bested Bollweg, 6-1, 6-0, to earn her seventh victory of the spring campaign. Stanisz followed suit with a 6-1, 6-4, win over Leysen before senior Morozova clinched victory for the Red Storm with a 7-5, 6-2, victory against Grigoryan.
Squaring off against Hofstra in the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Red Storm once again made quick work of its opponents, sweeping the Pride, 7-0, en route to the team's fifth victory of the year.
The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams of Morozova/Livianu and Stanisz/ Delia Arranz, quickly grabbed the doubles match point with a pair of victories in which the Red Storm only dropped three games.
In singles play, Livianu again got the Red Storm going with a 6-0, 6-2, victory against King of Hofstra. Senior Morozova grabbed the second singles point for St. John's at the No. 2 spot, before Irina Preotescu clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0, victory against Leone.
St. John's returns to action for its first BIG EAST matchup at Marquette on Friday, Feb. 17, at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee, Wis.
