Berardi and Donadio Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

QUEENS, N.Y. - Already the recipients of numerous accolades for their on-field successes, Jesse Berardi and Michael Donadio were recognized on Thursday morning for their accomplishments in the classroom as well, earning spots on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
Following their Academic All-District selections, Berardi and Donadio will now be on the final ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team.
Berardi earns this recognition for the second-straight season, having garnered a spot on last year's squad alongside St. John's teammates Thomas Hackimer and Alex Caruso. St. John's has now placed at least one player on the academic all-district first team for 12-straight seasons.
A finance major with a 3.85 GPA, Berardi has been having a tremendous junior season for the Red Storm, helping the Johnnies record their best start to a campaign in 36 years. Heading into the Red Storm's weekend series at Georgetown, Berardi is batting .385 while leading the team and ranking second in the conference with 39 RBIs. He has belted a team-high four home runs and leads the squad with 33 walks, a total that ranks second in the BIG EAST. In addition, the Commack, N.Y., native's .497 on-base percentage currently ranks 10th in all of Division I.
Donadio, a management major with a 3.39 GPA, has been on fire lately for the Red Storm, batting a league-best .392 while leading the team in doubles (11) and triples (5). Sporting the BIG EAST's second-best slugging percentage at .588, Donadio is the league's reigning player of the week and is batting .459 on his current 12-game hitting streak. Following a 2-for-3 outing against Iona on Tuesday, Donadio is now the owner of 248 career hits, the second-highest total in the 100-plus year history of St. John's baseball.
Heading into the weekend, Donadio and Berardi occupy the top two spots in the conference standings in both batting average and on-base percentage, while each ranks in the top five in slugging percentage, runs scored and hits.
The Johnnies return to action tomorrow, facing off against Georgetown in the first tilt of a three-game set beginning at 7 p.m. in Bethesda, Md.
