St. John's Ready for Columbia Invite

QUEENS, N.Y. - This weekend marks the second fall tournament for Head Coach Lauren Leo and the St. John's women's tennis team heads to Manhattan for the Columbia Invitational on Sept. 15-17 at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
How It Works
The Columbia Invitational is comprised of six competing teams: Columbia, Hofstra, Boston University, University of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and St. John's. Action is broken down into five singles flights and three doubles flights with the singles flights being named after one of the five boroughs in New York City (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx, and Manhattan). Each flight contains four matches which will begin play on Friday and will require three wins to be crowned the champion. The Johnnies have at least one competitor in each flight.

Arranz/Solis vs. Singh/Richards (Penn) - Doubles Two
Collins/Stanisz vs. Qostal/Rodriguez-Benito (Penn) - Doubles Two
Marjanovic/Preotescu vs. Berkman/Hess (Penn) - Doubles Three
Last Weekend
The Red Storm wrapped up its first fall tournament of the season, capturing a doubles flight championship at the Stony Brook Invite on Long Island.
Play began on Friday as the individual tournament featured four singles flights and two doubles flights. Juniors Delia Arranz and Olaya Inclan Solis went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend to claim the Doubles B Tournament. The pair defeated Anne-Kathrin Hierl and Nolwenn Cardsoso Joao of Stony Brook, 6-0, to win the title on Sunday.
Solis also reached the finals of the Singles A Tournament by going 3-1 over the weekend. The junior fell in a three-set match to Stony Brook's Elizabeth Tsvetkov in the finals.

Previously at the Columbia Invite
Last season proved to be a resounding success for St. John's at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center as the Johnnies won 14 singles and doubles matches over the weekend. Jessica Livianu went a perfect 3-0 in singles play, while Anna Morozova won two of her three singles matches.
