St. John’s travels to Indianapolis for 10-team meet
The St. John's cross country team moves into championship season this weekend in Indianapolis for the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships hosted by Butler University.
Â
"We are looking forward to the Big East Championship in Indianapolis," Head Coach Jim Hurt said. "Our training has been going great and we have been posting personal best times coming into the meet."
Â
The Red Storm finished tenth at the event last year held in Kenosha, Wis. Therese Gallagher and Stephanie Gerland led the Johnnies at the 2017 installment of the event.
Â
Ant Howard has led the Red Storm in the last two events. She finished third at the Metropolitan Championships two weeks ago and tenth at the Paul Short Invitational.
Â
"Ant Howard is having an exceptional senior year and looks to improve on her 13th place from two years ago," Hurt said.
Â
The Red Storm has also gotten consistent production from the middle of the pack.
Â
"Gerland, Jackie Gallagher, and Shannon Page have been holding down our two, three, four positions and Leah Anderson was sensational as our 5th at the Met Championship two weeks ago," Hurt said.
Â
Rounding out the top six for the Johnnies is freshman Marsella Ventura.
Â
"Freshman Marsella Ventura provides insurance for our top 5 in her Big East debut," Coach Hurt said.
Â
The first race will kick off at 11 a.m. and will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
