Johnnies and Explorers will tip off at 2 p.m. on ESPN+
Coming off a loss to Florida State on Sunday, the St. John's women's basketball team will look to return to its winning ways on Saturday when the team travels to Philadelphia for a showdown with La Salle.
The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Red Storm (6-3) will be looking for its fourth win in its last five tries and its fifth win on the road this season. Prior to the team's loss to La Salle on Sunday, St. John's was perfect against unranked foes Delaware State and Yale on its home floor.
Against FSU, Alisha Kebbe paced the Red Storm, tallying 17 points on a 5-of-13 shooting effort from the floor. The Philadelphia native also drained four of her six tries from long distance.
Kayla Charles put forth a stellar effort in her first career start. The Far Rockaway native brought down a career-high 20 rebounds. With that, Charles became just the fifth Johnnie in program history to record at least 20 boards in a single contest.
Despite the setback, the Red Storm kept up its stout defensive effort on Sunday by holding the Seminoles to 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including a 26.7 percent from behind the arc.
Behind her seventh double-digit scoring effort of the season, Qadashah Hoppie continues to lead the charge, as the sophomore now paces the team with 12.4 points per game.
Saturday's contest will be the third all-time meeting between the Red Storm and the Explorers, with each team claiming a victory. In 2011, St. John's dominated La Salle at Carnesecca Arena in a 66-45 victory, paced by Nadirah McKenith's 26 points.
La Salle (1-8) enters Saturday's game on the heels of its first win of the season, 62-52, against Norfolk State. In the team's most recent contest, four players eclipsed double-digit points with sophomore Michelle Nicholls leading the team with 17.
Junior forward, Shalina Miller stuffed the stat sheet for the Explorers in the team's lone win, registering a career-high five blocks along with 14 points and three steals.
This season, Deja King paces the offensive attack for the Explorers, averaging 8.1 points per game.
Following Saturday's contest with La Salle, St. John's will wrap up its non-conference schedule with a trip to Harrisonburg, Va., on Friday, Dec. 21, where the team will showdown with JMU at 2 p.m.
