Johnnies and Bulldogs are set to tip off at 7 p.m. on ESPN3
Looking to get back in the win column following a road loss to Wake Forest on Sunday, the St. John's women's basketball team will welcome Yale to Carnesecca Arena on Thursday evening.
Â
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with Sky Lindsay and Ralph Bednarczyk on the call from Queens. Â
Â
The Red Storm suffered its second loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, clawing its way back within four in the final frame before eventually falling to Wake Forest, 64-59, on the road. Tiana England led the Johnnies with 16 points and nine assists. Qadashah Hoppie added 15 points, while Curteeona Brelove also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Â
Running the point for the Red Storm this season, England leads the team in assists, dishing out at least six helpers in five of the team's seven games. The 5-foot-7 guard paces the BIG EAST and ranks inside the top-15 on the national level with 6.7 per contest.
Â
A bright spot for the Johnnies as of late, Brelove was a key contributor in the Red Storm's two games last week, averaging 15.0 points per contest on a 59.1 (13-of-22 FG) percent shooting effort from the field. The redshirt senior also brought down 8.0 boards per game, to earn Co-Player of the Week accolades from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) on Tuesday.
Â
Thursday's meeting with the Bulldogs begins a two-game home stretch for the Johnnies, who are currently undefeated in Queens this season. St. John's will look to improve to 2-0 at Carnesecca Arena, after defeating Delaware State by 38 points, 82-44, in the team's home opener on Nov. 29.
Â
The matchup will be the third all-time meeting between the Red Storm and the Bulldogs with the Johnnies holding a 2-0 advantage. The two programs last met on Dec. 9, 2015 when the Red Storm utilized a game-ending 19-9 run to outlast Yale, 69-56, at Carnesecca Arena. In its most recent contest with the Bulldogs, St. John's also saw former standout Danaejah Grant reach the 1,000th point plateau.
Â
Yale comes to New York sporting an overall record of 5-4, coming off of a recent 72-56 victory at home against Saint Peter's. Leading the way for the Bulldogs is junior guard Roxy Baraham, who is averaging 21.4 points per game, to go along with 5.4 rebounds per outing. Â As a team, Yale has converted 40.3 percent of its tries from the field and has netted just 22.8 percent of its chances from three-point range.
Â
The Red Storm will have a quick turnaround, welcoming Florida State to Carnesecca Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m., before traveling to Philadelphia for a showdown with La Salle on Dec. 15.
