Red Storm to Compete in NYIT Invitational Saturday
9/14/2018 3:27:00 PM | Women's Cross Country
St. John’s has finished first and second at the event in the last two seasons
The St. John's cross country team will compete in its second meet of the season tomorrow at the third-annual NYIT Invitational located in Old Westbury, N.Y.
Â
The Johnnies have historically run well at the event and will look to continue that trend this weekend. In the first edition of the event, the Red Storm won with the top four finishers at the meet. Last season, St. John's finished second with two of the top three placers in 2017.
Â
Last weekend the Red Storm finished fifth at the Ed Joyce Memorial Fordham Fiasco. Ant Howard led the Johnnies, finishing sixth, followed by Stephanie Gerland who came in 12th.
Â
"The NYIT Invite will test our racing skills over a very challenging course, Head Coach Jim Hurt said. "Our top runners will need to get up early in the race before reaching the trail part of the course while our 4-5-6-7 runners need to group up as close as possible for us to score well."Â
Â
The event will begin at 11:45 and will be streamed live throughout the meet. For all the latest news on the St. John's XC team, log on to RedStormSports.com and follow the team (@StJohnsXCTF) on Twitter. You can join the conversation with #SJUXC.
