Howard finishes in Top 10, Red Storm finish 23rd
The St. John's cross country team received a top 10 performance from Antonia Howard as the Red Storm finished in 23rd at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
Howard was one of five competitors for the Johnnies and finished in tenth place with a time of 21:51 in the 6,000m course. The Red Storm was one of 43 teams to compete in its division, finishing with the second best score (597 points) of any team running only five.
"Ant was fantastic today with her top 10 placing in such a large field," Head Coach Jim Hurt said.
There were 363 competitors in the entire field and Howard was one of only 17 with a pace that was under six minutes per mile.
Stephanie Gerland finished in 61st place for the Red Storm with a time of 23:02 with Therese Gallagher finishing behind her at 23:48 in 130th place. Rounding out the competition for the Johnnies were Shannon Page with a time of 24:13 and Jackie Gallagher at 24:40.
"Stephanie Gerland ran her third good race in a row while Shannon Page posted a big improvement over the 6K distance," Hurt said. "Tess Gallagher ran tough on a sore foot and Jackie Gallagher closed out our top five."
St. John's will next run at the Metropolitan Championships on Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. The Red Storm also raced at the event last season, finishing in sixth place as a team.
