Creighton Outlasts St. John's, 65-63, on Sunday Afternoon

Alisha Kebbe paced the way for the Red Storm with 18 points
With the score tied at 63 and just three seconds left on the clock, Creighton sank a late basket to down the St. John's women's basketball team, 65-63, on Sunday afternoon at Carnesecca Arena.
Alisha Kebbe paced the Red Storm (8-8, 1-4 BIG EAST) for the second time in as many games with 18 points, netting four of her six tries from beyond the arc.
Kadaja Bailey registered double digits for the Johnnies, finishing with 10 points on a 4-of-7 shooting effort from the floor. The Long Beach, N.Y., native saw seven of her 10 points come in the fourth quarter alone.
Both Akina Wellere and Qadashah Hoppie where just shy of cracking double figures, finishing with nine points apiece.
Tiana England put forth a solid effort all around for the Johnnies capping off her performance with six points, five boards and a team-high seven assists.
Despite the loss, the Johnnies recorded their best shooting effort from three-point range this season, as the Red Storm knocked in eight of its 15 tries to finish with a 53.3 percent clip from beyond the arc.
St. John's won the turnover battle, 13-9, converting those 13 Creighton miscues into 10 points. The Red Storm's nine turnovers tied for the second lowest number of surrenders this season for the Johnnies.
Defense dominated the early going of the first quarter for both teams, as Creighton broke through the scoreless deadlock with 5:36 remaining in the first frame.
Kebbe responded for the Johnnies, scoring on back-to-back possessions, igniting a 6-0 run for the Red Storm. Curteeona Brelove capped off the spurt for St. John's with a shot in the paint to give the Johnnies a 6-2 lead with just three minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
The two teams traded off buckets over the final minutes, with the Red Storm leading, 11-6, after the first stanza.
The tradeoff continued in the early going of the second quarter, as Creighton inched back within one, 17-16, with just under six minutes left in the half. The Red Storm responded, unleashing eight unanswered points to extend its lead to nine, 25-16.
With under three minutes to play in the in the half, and St. John's ahead, 25-21, the Johnnies outscored the Bluejays, 6-1, to enter the intermission with a 31-22 advantage.
After the first 20 minutes of action, the Johnnies were shooting 55.6 percent from downtown, as Kebbe paced the way for the Red Storm with a team-high nine points.
On the other side of the half, Creighton used an early 6-0 run to make it a one possession game, 31-29, forcing the Johnnies to use a timeout. Coming out of the huddle, Hoppie snapped the Bluejays streak with a jump shot to extend St. John's lead, 33-29.
With under five minutes to play in the third frame, the Bluejays knotted the game at 33 but the Red Storm would not let them sneak ahead for the rest of the quarter, stringing together a 7-0 run. The sequence started as Kebbe drained a shot from the top of the key, Wellere then completed the streak with four points.
The Johnnies had a 44-37 edge early in the fourth quarter before Creighton unleashed a 10-2 run to take its first lead since the opening stanza, 47-46, with just under seven minutes to play.
With just under three minutes remaining and Creighton leading, 58-52, Bailey lit up the court, rattling off a 7-0 run of her own to put the Johnnies back in the driver's seat, 59-58. Over the final 1:16 the teams saw a trio of ties before the Bluejays used a late basket to seal the victory.
The Red Storm will return to action with a trip to Chicago for a Friday night matchup with DePaul at 8 p.m. ET, before continuing its two-game road swing in Milwaukee against No. 15/14 Marquette on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
