St. John’s Heads to Dartmouth for the Big Green Invitational

The Red Storm kicks off its final fall tournament of the season in Hanover, N.H.
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2019) – The St. John's women's tennis team is back in action this weekend for the final time this fall as Head Coach Lauren Leo's squad travels to Hanover, N.H., to compete in the Big Green Invitational.
Joining the Johnnies and the Big Green at the three-day tournament are UMass and Yale. Play will commence at the Boss Tennis Center on Friday with St. John's and UMass competing in both singles and doubles matches at noon.
The Red Storm is coming off a three-win performance two weeks ago at the ITA Northeast Regionals, hosted by Army West Point. Oceane Garibal punched a ticket to the main singles draw, winning both of her qualifier matches in three sets. The senior first knocked off Long Island's Valentina Dancenco, 6-2, 6-7, 10-7), followed by a 6-7, 6-1, 7-6, triumph over Fairfield's Aina March to advance.
Najah Dawson was victorious in her first-round contest, eliminating Fairleigh Dickinson's Aleksandra Vorozheikina, 6-3, 6-1. The sophomore was unsuccessful in securing a bid into the main draw as she fell in her second-round qualifying tilt to Ashley Huang of Cornell in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.
Both Garibal and Milka Genkova were unable to move on to the round of 64 of the main draw, losing both of their first-round contests to two Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Garibal dropped her match to Rutgers' Tess Fisher, 6-3, 7-5, while Genkova lost her lone singles tilt of the weekend in straight sets to Sydney Kaplan, 6-3, 7-5.
