St. John’s Heads to No. 9 Creighton and Providence

The Red Storm enter the weekend coming off a four-set victory over DePaul on Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2019) – After winning three of its last four matches, the St. John's volleyball team hits the road this weekend to face No. 9 Creighton on Friday before entering its matchup with Providence on Sunday.
The Red Storm (14-9, 6-4 BIG EAST) will face the Bluejays on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. ET. The Johnnies will then travel to Rhode Island for a Sunday afternoon affair with the Friars, beginning at 1 p.m.
Senior setter Erica Di Maulo became the program's all-time service aces leader in St. John's four-set win over DePaul on Saturday, extending her career total to 138. Di Maulo was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after leading the conference with 10.88 assists per set last week while dishing out 44 helpers against then-No. 11 Marquette and 43 against the Blue Demons.
Amanda Sanabia upped a match-high 23 digs against DePaul to move into the no. 2 spot on St. John's all-time digs list with 1,726, passing Kristine Knobel on the leaderboard. The Johnnies' libero has collected 20 or more digs four times this season.
Efrosini Alexakou currently ranks first in conference play with 5.01 points per set and sits in second place with 4.47 kills per set. The outside hitter registered a combined 36 kills against the Golden Eagles and Blue Demons last weekend. The sophomore also leads the team with 327 kills this season.
Sophomore right side hitter Rachele Rastelli turned in 26 kills across the Red Storm's two matches and posted a team-high five blocks against Marquette.
No. 9 Creighton (17-3, 10-0 BIG EAST) ranks first in the conference standings after going undefeated in league play this season. The Bluejays head into Friday's matchup on a 12-game win streak.
Creighton paces the conference in hitting percentage (.284), opponent hitting percentage (.148), kills per set (14.67) and service aces per set (2.15) in BIG EAST play.
Freshman outside hitter Keeley Davis holds a team-high 218 kills and earned her seventh straight league Freshman of the Week accolade on October 22.
Senior setter Madelyn Cole ranks first in the BIG EAST with 10.99 assists per set and has dished out 769 helpers in 2019. The Bluejay's defensive specialist Brittany Witt also leads the league with 4.96 digs per set.
Providence (5-18, 0-10 BIG EAST) has yet to win a conference match this season and is coming off of a pair of straight-set losses to then-No. 10 Creighton.
Freshman outside hitter Jennifer Leitman leads the team with 201 kills. Leitman also ranks sixth in the league with 3.09 kills per set and sits in seventh place with 3.60 points per set.
Junior setter Allison Barber posts a team-high 718 assists in 2019 and ranks fifth in conference play with 8.35 assists per set.
St. John's picked up a 3-0 victory in its first meeting with Providence on October 5.
