St. John’s Resumes Conference Play Against Seton Hall

The Red Storm will face the Pirates on Friday night at Carnesecca Arena and on Sunday at Walsh Gymnasium
QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 14, 2019) – After claiming sole possession of fourth place in the BIG EAST standings, the St. John's volleyball team resumes conference play with two weekend matchups against Seton Hall.
The Johnnies (17-10, 9-5 BIG EAST) ride a three-game win streak into their 7 p.m. matchup with the Pirates on Friday night inside Carnesecca Arena. St. John's will then take on Seton Hall again for a Sunday afternoon affair, beginning at 1 p.m.
Rachele Rastelli was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after recording 27 kills across the Red Storm's two wins against Xavier and Butler. Rastelli registered 16 kills while hitting at a .462 clip in the Red Storm's 3-0 win over the Musketeers. Two days later, Rastelli threw down 11 kills and posted a .364 hitting percentage in the Johnnies' second consecutive straight-set victory against the Bulldogs.
Middle blocker Maria Angelica Palacios earned a spot on the conference's weekly honor roll after notching six total blocks last weekend. Palacios also picked up six kills and posted a .429 hitting percentage against Xavier. The junior ranks second in the conference with 1.20 blocks per set this season.
Senior setter Erica Di Maulo dished out 76 assists in St. John's two wins while Efrosini Alexakou put down 17 kills and collected 16 digs in the Red Storm's victory over Butler.
Seton Hall (7-21, 2-12 BIG EAST) enters Friday's match on a two-game skid after falling to Xavier and Butler in five sets last weekend.
The Pirates' two conference wins the season came in a five-set victory against Providence on Oct. 4 and in a straight-set win over Georgetown on Oct. 9.
Senior middle blocker Haylee Gasser leads the team with 280 kills while junior Amanda Rachwal ranks second with 226.
Freshman libero Raygan Murray ranks sixth in the league with 4.03 digs per set and has upped 371 digs in 2019.
