St. John’s Falls to No. 12 Columbia, 6-1

The Johnnies lose their second match against Ivy League competition this season
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis (4-2) team lost a tough contest on the road Sunday afternoon to nationally-ranked Columbia, 6-1.
In doubles action, Columbia (3-0) was able to corral the Johnnies as the Lions swept St. John's in all three matches. The Johnnies were swept, 6-0, in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. In No. 2 doubles, Aditya Vashistha and Udayan Bhakar fought hard with Columbia's Adam Ambrozy and William Matheson but eventually dropped the contest, 6-2.
Defending Co-BIG EAST Player of the Year, Alan Nunez Aguilera, earned a well-deserved point for the Red Storm, defeating Ambrozy, 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-2, in the No. 3 match.
At the No. 1 spot, senior Luka Sucevic fell in a tough battle against No. 54 Victor Pham, 6-1, 6-1.
Andrei Crapcenco was tasked to play No. 11 ranked player in the nation, Jack Lin, in the No. 2 singles contest. The senior fought hard but ultimately lost the match, 6-3, 6-1.
Vashistha took the second set against Austen Huang, 6-3, after losing the first set, 4-6. Huang proved to be too much to handle as he won the No. 5 match in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
The Red Storm will hit the road for a set of matches against Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb University on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23, respectively.
