St. John’s Drops Series Finale to No. 3 UCLA, 11-1

Johnnies return to action next weekend at Western Carolina
After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, the St. John's baseball team was held hitless over the final five innings, as No. 3 UCLA took the series finale, 11-1, on Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Rudy Aguilar picked up his first hit as a Johnnie, scoring Colin Wetterau with an RBI double in the third.
Wyatt Mascarella singled for St. John's (0-3) for his second base knock of the weekend.
Joe LaSorsa was tagged with the loss in his first career start while UCLA's Jesse Bergin, a freshman, fanned nine in 5.2 frames to secure his the win.
Aguilar's first Division I hit came in a big spot for the Johnnies, putting the Red Storm on the board first in the top of the third with an RBI double to the gap in left center. Wetterau scored on the play after reaching on a throwing error by the shortstop and swiping second.
The Bruins (3-0) quickly pulled even in the home half, as an RBI single from Michael Toglia knotted the score at one apiece.
Following a scoreless top of the fourth for St. John's, UCLA added on two more runs in the bottom of the inning to take its first lead of the game, 3-1, after four. Garrett Mitchell and Will McInerny drove in the runs for the Bruins in the fourth.
UCLA tallied another run in the fifth before tacking on three more in the seventh to take the 10-run advantage with which it would end the game.
St. John's returns to action on Friday, beginning a three-game set at Western Carolina.
