Tiana England nets a career-high 23 points
Despite a career-high 23-point performance from Tiana England, the St. John's women's basketball team fell to Georgetown, 82-80, on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
The Stamford, Conn., native scored 17 of her career-high 23 points in the second half to fuel the Johnnies' late run. The 5-foot-7 guard drained eight of her 12 attempts from the floor, netting both of her tries from beyond the arc. The BIG EAST leader in assists also dished out four helpers, while bringing down a pair of boards against the Hoyas.
Three other Johnnies finished in double figures for the Red Storm, as Alisha Kebbe netted 16 points. The junior from Philadelphia matched England and Qadashah Hoppie with a team-high four assists to go along with four boards.
Curteeona Brelove netted double-digits for the seventh-straight game with 12 points, while BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year Kadaja Bailey finished with 10 points for the Red Storm. Brelove also tied Akina Wellere with a team-best seven rebounds.
Georgetown (13-14, 7-9 BIG EAST) saw starters Dionna White and Dorothy Adomako each register 29 points to ultimately lift the Hoyas past St. John's (14-14, 7-10 BIG EAST).
Sunday's contest marked the first time since Feb. 16, 1991, that the Hoyas and the Johnnies both finished with at least 80 points each in a game.
The Johnnies got on the board first, as Kebbe went 1-for-2 from the charity stripe, as a result of an administrative technical. The Red Storm's early advantage didn't stop Georgetown, as the Hoyas went off on an offensive surge early in the opening frame. The home team rattled off a 13-4 run to lead, 13-5, with 6:54 left on the clock.
Georgetown continued to dominate the first quarter, shooting 80.0 percent (12-of-15) from the floor, while holding the Johnnies to 43.8 percent (7-of-16) after 10 minutes of action.

Coming out of the locker room, the Johnnies continued to steadily chip away at the Hoyas' lead, pulling the game within two twice in a little over six minutes.

Georgetown built its lead up by as many as 13, 74-61, midway through the final stanza. However the Red Storm responded, unleashing nine unanswered points to pull the contest within four, 74-70, with under two minutes remaining.
The two teams traded blows over the remainder of the fourth quarter, as the Johnnies trimmed the Hoyas' lead to one on two occasions over the final 31 seconds. That was as close as the Red Storm would get, as the Hoyas came away with the victory.
The Johnnies will have one week off before hosting Seton Hall at Carnesecca Arena on March 3, for the final contest of the regular season.
