The contest between the Johnnies and the Pirates will be live streamed on BEDN
The St. John's women's basketball team will take the floor at home for its final contest of the regular season on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Seton Hall to Carnesecca Arena for a 2 p.m. tip.
The matchup with the Pirates will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with announcers Jon Yardley and Mike Watts along with sideline reporter Meghan Caffrey on the call from Queens.
Earlier this year, Seton Hall defeated the Johnnies, 77-67, to open up conference play on Dec. 30. The Red Storm hosts Seton Hall (14-14, 6-11 BIG EAST) with a 14-14 overall record and a 7-10 mark in league play, to sit one game up on the Pirates in the conference standings. If the Pirates defeat St. John's on Sunday, Seton Hall will be the No. 8 seed and face the ninth-seeded Red Storm six days later. However if St. John's wins, the Pirates are the No. 9 seed while the Johnnies will have to wait for Georgetown, Providence and Creighton to wrap up play, as all four can finish with a conference record of 8-10. The Hoyas, Friars and Bluejays can also finish 9-9, placing St. John's into the eight-seed.
Sunday's contest will mark the 78th meeting between the two local rivals, with the Johnnies leading the all-time series, 45-32. The two programs have split the regular-season series in each of the last two campaigns. St. John's has not lost to Seton Hall inside Carnesecca Arena in over a decade.
The Johnnies are looking to jump back in the win column following their setback to Georgetown last Sunday. Despite the loss, Tiana England put forth a stellar shooting performance for St. John's against the Hoyas, tallying a career-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. The redshirt sophomore from Stamford, Conn., has eclipsed the 20-point mark twice over the last four games. In addition to her recent shooting success, England continues to hold down her spot as the conference's leader in assists, dishing out 5.7 dimes per game.
Alisha Kebbe, Curteeona Brelove and Kadaja Bailey also finished in double figures against the Hoyas. Kebbe netted 16 points, while Brelove and Bailey drained 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Heading into Sunday's meeting with the Red Storm, the Pirates are currently riding a six-game losing streak, most recently falling to Villanova, 73-68, on Feb. 24.
Four Pirates are boasting double figures on the season, led by the conference's top scorer Shadeen Samuels, who is currently averaging 18.0 points per game. Nicole Jimenez (12.5), Inja Butina (12.4) and Disiree Elmore (10.3) are all netting at least 10.0 points per contest. Jimenez has been dominant from downtown this season, as she leads the conference in three-point shots per game, with 3.0, to sit inside the top-25 in the nation.
Following Sunday's contest, the Red Storm will travel to Chicago for the BIG EAST Tournament at Wintrust Arena. Seeding, which dictates game times and opponents, will be decided after the final day of regular-season play.
