QUEENS, N.Y. (March 27, 2019) – The St. John's softball team fell to Stony Brook, 25-6, on Wednesday at Red Storm Field.

In the first inning, Gretchen Bowie ripped a double to right field only to swap places with Marissa Rizzi on a two-bagger of her own to give St. John's (13-15, 2-1) a one-run lead. The Red Storm scored its second run on a Christina Melendez grounder that brought Rizzi around to score.

After a scoreless second frame, Stony Brook (12-8, 0-0 America East) posted six runs in the third to take a four-run lead, 6-2.

The Seawolves and the Johnnies exchanged runs in the fourth inning. The Red Storm scored in that frame as Natalie Giroux knocked in Gabriella Conca on a single to right.

In the home half of the fifth, St. John's cut its deficit to two, 7-5, on a sacrifice fly to right by Peyton Cody and a Melendez RBI single up the middle.

Stony Brook broke open the game with 18 unanswered runs in the final two frames to pull away from the Johnnies.

St. John's will continue its homestand with a three-game set against Georgetown on March 30-31.
