The Red Storm extend its winning streak to four with Saturday’s victory
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team continued its winning ways by extending its winning streak to four matches by defeating Butler 4-1, Saturday evening.
In doubles action, the Bulldogs were able to score their only point of the contest, winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles contests, Michael Dickson and Mason Dragos were able to take down Andrei Crapcenco and Alan Nunez Aguilera, 6-2. Thomas Brennan and Spencer Lang clinched the doubles point for Yale, besting Ognjen Trejgut and Aditya Vashistha, 6-4.
Despite missing out on the doubles point, the Red Storm was able to win the No. 2 match as Charlie James and Igor Maslov defeated Aviv Ben Shabat and Adrian Mag, 6-3.
In singles play, the Johnnies took over the match and put the Bulldogs away quickly. Dillon Pottish's squad earned its first point of the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 match by Dusan Vukicevic over Adrian Mag.
Vashistha secured the second point of the contest for the Johnnies by taking down Ben Shabat, 6-2, 6-2, in the No.3 match.
Udayan Bhakar kept the momentum rolling for the Johnnies, dominating Spencer Lang in the No. 5 match, 6-3, 6-3.
Crapcenco sealed the match for the Red Storm, securing the final point of the evening by defeating Mason Dragos, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Nunez and Trejgut also saw action for the Johnnies in singles competition, participating in the No. 2 and No. 6 singles matches respectively. Both of their contests went unfinished.
St. John's looks to continue its win streak on Monday, April 1, as the Red Storm host Wagner College in Flushing N.Y. at the USTA National Tennis Center at 8:30 p.m.
