The Red Storm sweeps the Seahawks for its fifth-consecutive win, improve to 11-5 this season
QUEENS, N.Y. – The red hot St. John's men's tennis team continued its dominance Monday evening, blanking the Wagner Seahawks, 5-0, at the USTA National Tennis Center for its fifth-straight win.
After dropping the doubles point on Saturday in their win over Butler, the Johnnies quickly won the first two doubles matches to grab the first point of the contest. Ognjen Trejgut and Alan Nunez Aguilera earned the first victory on the No. 3 court over Hans Ohrner and Ilya Kneppelhout, 6-1. Dusan Vukicevic and Alex Roszkowski clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 victory over Lucas Gonzalez and Eric Poland in the No. 2 bout.
In singles play, the Red Storm never allowed the match to get close, claiming victories in the first four singles matches to complete the sweep. In the No. 3 match, senior Luka Sucevic won the first singles contest in straight sets over Dale Sandy, 6-3, 6-3.
Trejgut secured the second point of the contest for the Johnnies by taking down Hans Ohrner, 6-4, 7-6, in the No. 2 match.
Udayan Bhakar kept the momentum rolling for the Johnnies, dominating Lucas Gonzalez in the top-flight, 6-2, 6-4.
Igor Maslov sealed the match for the Red Storm, securing the final point of the evening by defeating Eric Poland, 6-4, 7-6.
Charlie James and Roszkowski also saw action for the Johnnies in singles competition, participating in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, respectively. Both of their contests went unfinished.
St. John's looks to carry on its winning ways on Friday, April 5, as the Red Storm ventures to the Windy City to take on DePaul at 6:15 p.m.
