St. John’s Outlasts DePaul, 5-2

The Red Storm’s win over the Blue Demons increases its winning streak to six
CHICAGO – The St. John's men's tennis team won its sixth-consecutive contest on Friday night, outdueling the DePaul Blue Demons in Chicago, 5-2.
Despite dropping the first doubles match on the No. 1 court, the Red Storm (12-5) fired right back to win the last two doubles contests to claim the first point of the evening.
In the No. 2 match, Dusan Vukicevic and Alex Roszkowski dominated Fran Tonejc & Vito Tonejc, taking the match, 6-2. Ognjen Trejgut and Alan Nunez Aguilera clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies, defeating Luuk Wassenaar and Conor O'meara, 6-4, on the No. 3 court.
The Red Storm kicked off singles play with a win in the No.1 match as Andrei Crapcenco outlasted Vito Tonejc, 6-3, 6-4. The Blue Demons bounced back and scored their first point of the contest in the No. 2 match. Boris Spanjaard knocked off Alan Nunez Aguilera in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5.
The Johnnies were able to retaliate and regain the momentum after Aditya Vashistha defeated Fran Tonjec in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. DePaul was able to keep the match within reach by claiming a victory in No. 4 contest. Christopher Casati won a thrilling battle against Vukicevic in three-sets, 4-6, 7-6, 10-9 to cut the deficit within one.
The Johnnies earned two victories in the remaining matches of the evening to secure the 5-2 victory. Udayan Bhakar dominated Tamas Zador in the No. 5 bout, 6-2, 6-4, and Trejgut knocked off Conor O'meara in the No. 6 match, 6-4, 6-2, to end the contest.
The Johnnies will look to make it seven straight wins this Sunday as they travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on Marquette University at 1 p.m.
