Kweon Turns in Top-10 Finish at Hoya Invitational

Jessie Kweon carded a final round one-under 71
St. John's freshman Jessie Kweon posted a final-round one-under 71, on her way to turning in a top-10 finish at the Hoya Invitational on Tuesday at Four Streams golf course in Beallsville, Md.
Kweon opened her final round on the seventh hole, making four-straight pars before draining an eagle on the par-5 11th hole. The freshman made 12 more pars to finish the day at one-under 71. Over the two days, Kweon continued to improve, signing for rounds of 79, 76 and 71 for a combined 226 (+10), which placed her seventh overall.
Linda Wang and Andrea Sanchez joined Kweon inside the top-20, as both golfers turned in a final-round 79. Sanchez shot a three-round total of 230 (+14) to tie for 11th place, while Wang's combined 234 (+18) put her in a tie for 19th place.
Alejandra Sanchez and Sofie Huseby closed out the tournament for the Red Storm, turning in scores of 75 and 87 on the day to finish 29th and 43rd in the event.
"It was great to see some good individual scores this weekend," Head Coach Ambry Bishop said. "Andrea had a nice start and Jessie and Alejandra played very well in the last two rounds. We are starting to play better in these last few weeks, which is what you want to see before conference play."
Georgetown's Christina Parsells won the individual title with a score of 218 (+2), helping lift the Hoyas to the team title (+42). The Red Storm finished fifth overall in the tournament, with a combined score of 927 (+63).
The Johnnies' next event will be the BIG EAST Championship on April 19-21 in Okatie, S.C. at the Callawassie Island Country Club.
