The Johnnies and the Blue Demons will matchup at 1 p.m. ET on FS1
St. John's will face its toughest test of conference play on Sunday when the Red Storm visits McGrath-Phillips Arena to take on No. 15/17 DePaul at 1 p.m. ET.
The contest between the Red Storm (10-6, 3-2 BIG EAST) and the Blue Demons (14-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) will be broadcast live on FS1, for the second of four nationally televised games for the Red Storm this season. John Fanta and Kim Adams will be on the call from Chicago.
The Red Storm will look to snap a two-game BIG EAST skid when it takes on the nationally ranked Blue Demons on Sunday afternoon.
St. John's offense has been lethal through the early conference contests, as the Johnnies sit second in scoring (72.0), field goal percentage (45.0%) and 3-point field goal percentage (38.8%) during league action. Despite its recent setback to Marquette, the Red Storm put forth their highest scoring output of conference play, netting 85 points against the Golden Eagles. In the Johnnies loss to Marquette, the Red Storm converted on 55.6 (30-of-54) percent of its tries from the floor, including a 66.7 clip from three-point range. Both were season-highs for St. John's during BIG EAST play.
Once again, Qadashah Hoppie led St. John's in scoring against the Golden Eagles, logging her sixth 20-plus point effort of the season. The junior guard knocked down a team-high 22 points with 16 of those coming in the second half. With 22 points against Marquette, Hoppie bumped are career total up to 975 points and is just 25 shy of 1,000.
Alisha Kebbe, who led the team in rebounding at Marquette with six boards, is also coming up on 1,000 points. Over her Red Storm career, Kebbe has tallied a total 991 points and is just nine short of 1,000.
Sunday will mark the 25th all-time meeting between the Johnnies and the Blue Demons with DePaul holding a 19-5 edge. The Red Storm's last victory over DePaul dates back to March 7 2016, as St. John's wreaked havoc on then ranked No. 18/18 DePaul in the BIG EAST semis to eventually win the conference crown. This also marked the last time the Johnnies defeated a nationally ranked team in the postseason.
DePaul enters Sunday's contest undefeated in conference play, boasting a perfect 4-0 record. The Blue Demons most recent win came on Friday, as DePaul downed Seton Hall, 85-68, in Chicago. Three of the Blue Demons' five starters are averaging double figures this year with Chante Stonewall leading the way at 18.2 points per game, good enough for fourth in the conference. Sonya Morris and Lexi Held round out the double-digit scorers, averaging 16.2 and 14.5 points per game, respectively.
DePaul's senior guard Kelly Campbell leads her squad and sits second in the conference in assists with 5.6 dimes per game. The Wall, N.J., native is turning in an assist-to-turnover ratio of 5.6-to-1, to rank first in all of Division I.
To hold off DePaul the Johnnies are going to have to lock in defensively, as the Blue Demons rank first in the conference and third in the nation in scoring offense (86.8), which is led by their ability to shoot from beyond the arc. DePaul ranks first in the BIG EAST and second nation in three-point field goals made with 180.
After its contest with DePaul, St. John's will return home to Carnesecca Arena to play host to Providence on Friday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. for the team's annual kid's day.
