St. John’s Sweeps Sunday Doubleheader over Army and UConn

The Red Storm improves to 5-0 this season behind two 4-0 sweeps over Army and UConn
WEST POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 26, 2020) – The St. John's men's tennis team closed the weekend with a pair of convincing wins over Army and UConn in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y.
The two wins on Sunday improved the red-hot Johnnies to a 5-0 start to their spring season. "This was a great weekend for our team to get the three wins," said Head Coach Dillon Pottish. "I'm really proud of the effort our guys have given to start the year."
St. John's 4, Army 0
Charlie James and Giuseppe De Camelis picked up St. John's first doubles victory of the afternoon, defeating Army's No. 2 duo Diego Huttepain and Thomas Lake, 6-3. On the No. 3 court, Aditya Vashistha and Udayan Bhakar secured the first point of the afternoon for the Johnnies as they knocked off David Gorshein and Samuel Eden, 6-3.
St. John's took the first three singles matches in straight sets to cruise to a 4-0 sweep over the Black Knights.
De Camelis picked up his fourth singles victory of the season with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Thomas Lake on the No. 5 court.
Garcia earned his second singles win in the No. 2 slot this season as the junior trounced Diego Huttepain, 6-4, 6-1.
Bhakar wrapped up the Red Storm victory for the second-consecutive matchup as he defeated Army's No.4, A.J. Woodman, 6-4, 6-0.

On the No. 1 court, Garcia and Igor Maslov picked up St. John's first doubles victory in its second contest of the afternoon, knocking off UConn's John Michael Holtmann and Christian Provenzano, 6-2. Vashistha and Bhakar clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies as they defeated UConn's No. 3 duo Nicholas Gore and Luke Riemann, 6-2.
For the second time this afternoon, the Red Storm conquered the first three singles matches in straight sets to sprint to a 4-0 sweep over the Huskies.
Bhakar gave St. John's its first singles victory of the second match in the No. 1 bout with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Rami Sheetz.
Dylan Loru earned his first singles win of the day in the No. 6 slot, trouncing Nicholas Gore, 6-4, 6-1.
James wrapped up the victory for the Red Storm as he defeated UConn's Christian Provenzano on the No. 4 court, 6-1, 6-2.
