The Johnnies and Blue Hens will tip off at 2 p.m. at Bob Carpenter Center
After splitting a two-game homestand with Saint Peter's and Villanova, the St. John's women's basketball team will begin a four-game road swing at Delaware on Thursday afternoon.
The contest between the Johnnies and the Blue Hens will be available to live stream at FloHoops.com. Fans can also tune in on Fox Sports 1290/1410 WDOV.
The Red Storm (2-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) will look to bounce back from its first loss of the season, a nine-point setback to BIG EAST foe Villanova.
The loss came just five days after St. John's 38-point drubbing of Saint Peter's. In that win, St. John's recorded a program-high 16 blocks. The Johnnies' 16 rejections against the Peacocks lead the BIG EAST and are the second-most in a single game this season on the national level.
Through three games this year, the Johnnies are averaging a league-high 9.3 swats per game to sit second overall in the NCAA. Northwest Florida transfer Rayven Peeples leads the way for St. John's in blocks with 2.0 per game to rank inside the top-five. In addition to her defensive success, Peeples sits second on the team in scoring with 12.0 points per game on a 73 percent shooting from the floor.
All-BIG EAST Preseason selection Leilani Correa leads the Johnnies in scoring, averaging 18.7 points per game, to rank fifth overall in the conference. Correa is coming off of a game-high 21-point performance against Villanova on Sunday. Over the Johnnies' two-game homestand last week, Correa averaged 20.0 points per game to earn a spot on the league's weekly honor roll on Monday. Dating back to her freshman season, Correa, the 2020 BIG EAST Sixth Woman of the Year, has finished in double figures in five-straight contests, scoring 20 or more points in two of those outings.
After averaging 3.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game a season ago, senior forward Raven Farley has stepped up in a big way for St. John's. The Elizabeth, N.J., native is boasting 11.0 points per game to go along with a team-high 8.3 rebounds to rank fourth overall in the conference.
Unique Drake rounds out Johnnies averaging double figures, as the sophomore guard is recording 10.3 points per game.
Thursday will mark the sixth all-time meeting between the Johnnies and Delaware, with the Blue Hens holding a 3-2 advantage. The Red Storm came out victorious in the last contest between the two programs, as St. John's all-time leading rebounder Amber Thompson crashed the glass, pulling down 15 boards. Thompson also recorded 14 points to secure a double-double en route to the Johnnies' 61-58 victory.
Delaware enters Thursday's contest with a 2-0 record, recording victories over Salem and Pittsburgh. Preseason All-CAA First Team Selection Jasmine Dickey, who led the Blue Hens in scoring a season ago with 12.4 points per game, is the lone returning starter from the 2019-20 campaign. Through two games this year, Dickey is averaging a team-high 25.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Paris McBride and Lizzie O'Leary each spent time coming off the bench last year and have found their way into the starting lineup this season as McBride went off for a career-high 29 points against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Following Thursday's meeting with the Blue Hens, the Johnnies will continue their four-game road stretch, traveling to UMass for a 2 p.m. contest with the Minutewomen on Dec. 13.
