St. John’s will look to complete season sweep of the Hoyas in our nation’s capital on Sunday
The St. John's women's basketball team will look to pick up its fourth BIG EAST win in five tries on Sunday afternoon when the team travels to our nation's capital for a 2 p.m. meeting with the Georgetown Hoyas.
Â
The 66th all-time meeting between the Johnnies and the Hoyas will be available to live stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Ben Gordon-Goldstein and Monika Moore on the call from McDonough Arena.
Â
St. John's (13-8, 6-4 BIG EAST) will aim to complete a regular season sweep of Georgetown (4-17, 1-9 BIG EAST) when the two teams face off on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Red Storm's first win over the Hoyas came just over a month ago inside Carnesecca Arena, as Qadashah Hoppie scored a team-high 18 points to go along with three assists in a 71-54 victory. Two other Johnnies finished in double figures, as Alisha Kebbe notched her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Alissa Alston posted 12 points.
Â
St. John's put forth its best effort of BIG EAST play in terms of rebounding on Friday night at Villanova, as the Johnnies won the battle of the boards, 50-36. This marked the team's first 50+ rebounding effort since Nov. 28, 2018 when the Red Storm grabbed 56 against Delaware State. Kebbe was the key contributor to the Johnnies' success on the glass, as the senior guard pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 13 points.
Â
Alston led the way in scoring at Villanova, sinking five of her nine tries from the floor to finish with a season-high 21 points. The New Haven, Conn., native has been on an offensive tear as of late for the Red Storm, finishing in double figures in eight-straight contests. In those eight games, Alston averaged 14.6 points per contest on a 49 percent shooting from the floor including a 10-for-23 showing from three-point range.
Georgetown enters Sunday's contest with a record of 4-17. The Hoyas are in search of their first win since Dec. 31 when they defeated Providence, 62-53, for their lone victory of conference play.
Â
Offensively, the Hoyas are led by Taylor Barnes, a 5-foot-8 guard who is averaging 11.9 points per game. Last time out against Georgetown, Barnes finished second on the team in scoring with 13 points as Nikola Kovacikova led the way with 15.
Â
The Red Storm will look to take both ends of a regular season series with the Hoyas for the fifth time in six seasons.
Â
After wrapping up its three game road swing, the Red Storm will return home to Carnesecca Arena on Friday night for its regular season rematch with No. 11/12 DePaul. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. on BEDN.
