Anderson Named BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week

Anderson broke two program records over the weekend
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2020) – After breaking two program records at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, Leah Anderson has been named the BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday by the league office.
Anderson broke the program record for the 200 meters after earning a first-place finish in the event with a time of 23.54. The junior sprinter outran the mark of 23.80 that was set by Adriana Wright in 2017. Anderson's time ranks 27th in the nation and first in the BIG EAST.
Anderson also set a new school record in the 400 meters after registering a mark of 53.25, taking second place overall. The time sits at 22nd in the country and is also a conference-leading mark.
Anderson closed out the meet by teaming up with Avon Samuels, Skyy Diop and Brianna Burkley to take first place in the 4x400-meter relay for the third straight week with a time of 3:38.74. Anderson recorded the fastest split with a mark of 53.142. The Johnnies' time ranks 44th in the nation and first in the conference.
St. John's returns to action when the team travels to Geneva, Ohio, on March 1 for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships at SPIRE Institute.
