St. John’s Returns to Texas for Cardinal Classic

The Red Storm will take on Northern Colorado and Lamar
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 20, 2020) – St. John's will look to build upon its two wins from last weekend when the team travels to Beaumont, Texas for Lamar's Cardinal Classic on Feb. 21-23.
The Red Storm opens the five-game slate with a 1:00 p.m. ET, matchup with Northern Colorado, followed by a contest with Lamar at 6:00 p.m. ET. St. John's will kick off day two against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. ET, before squaring off with Northern Colorado at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday evening. The Johnnies will close out the weekend against the Bears with an 11:00 a.m. ET, contest on Sunday.
St. John's picked up a pair of wins against Binghamton at the Texas A&M Invitational last weekend, featuring strong performances from pitchers Erin Brown and Angela Saric, who factored in the decision.
Brown captured her first career victory with a complete game, three-hitter while allowing no earned runs in the team's 6-1 victory. Saric followed up with her first win and complete game of the season by allowing just one earned run on five hits in the Red Storm's 5-2 win over Binghamton.
Peyton Cody notched her first home run of the season with a three-run shot in the Johnnies' first victory of 2020. St. John's moved to 5-1 all-time when Cody takes the opposing pitcher deep. After starting the season 0-for-7 at the dish, the Mission Viejo, Calif., native has gone 7-for-16 in her last six games, including a 3-for-3 performance against UCF on Feb. 9.
Junior Kalei Sorensen shined in College Station at the Texas A&M Invitational, logging four hits and a trio of RBIs. The Valencia, Calif., native has recorded a base knock in six of her nine starts, including her first career multi-hit game against Binghamton on Feb. 15. The Johnnies' outfielder is batting .357 with five of her seven hits coming with runners on base. Furthermore, four of her five base knocks have come with two outs.
St. John's holds a 0-1 record against both Northern Colorado and Lamar. It will be nearly 10 years since St. John's and Northern Colorado have faced off as the two programs last met in March 2010. The Bears knocked off the Red Storm, 3-2, at the University of Arizona Tournament in the teams' inaugural meeting.
