Red Storm to Host Seton Hall for 23rd Annual Women in Sports Day

St. John’s will look to complete season sweep of the Pirates in Queens on Saturday
The St. John's women's basketball team will kick off its three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Seton Hall to Carnesecca Arena for its 23rd-annual Women in Sports Day at 2 p.m.

The conference clash between the Johnnies (15-11, 8-7 BIG EAST) and the Pirates (16-10, 9-6 BIG EAST) will be available to live stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Sky Lindsay and Jon Yardley on the call from Queens.

The Johnnies aim to bounce back from a heartbreaking setback at Providence on Sunday afternoon, which marked the squad's fourth BIG EAST loss by five points or fewer. Despite leading for nearly 37 minutes of action, the Red Storm saw its advantage dwindle in the final frame. With 4.6 seconds on the clock, the Friars' Earlette Scott drew a foul as she hit a pull-up jumper to tie the game at 53. Scott then converted from the free-throw line to give Providence a 54-53 advantage. It marked the Friars' first lead of the afternoon as they held on for the win.

After turning in a team-high 22 points for her 10th 20-point effort of the season on Sunday, Qadashah Hoppie will look to replicate her efforts when the Johnnies welcome the Pirates on Saturday. The junior guard from Staten Island currently ranks sixth in the league in scoring (16.8 ppg) while sitting second in the conference in three-point field goals made with 2.7 treys per game.Â

Led by Hoppie's 16.8 points per game, three Johnnies are currently averaging double figures. Alissa Alston ranks second on the team at 12.0 points per contest, while three-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Leilani Correa is averaging 11.6 points per game, the second highest average among league rookies.
