The contest between the Johnnies and the Musketeers will be live streamed on BEDN
The St. John's women's basketball team will play its final game of the regular season on Sunday when it welcomes Xavier to Carnesecca Arena for a 4 p.m. meeting.
The contest between the Red Storm (17-11, 10-7 BIG EAST) and the Musketeers (3-25, 2-15 BIG EAST) will be available to live stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Mike Watts and Drew Casey on the call from Queens.
The Johnnies will seek to secure their third-straight win and their fourth sweep over a conference opponent this season. St. John's will also look to improve to 11-3 in Queens for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign. That year the Red Storm went 11-3 at home before going on to capture the BIG EAST Championship.
St. John's enters its final matchup of the regular season on the heels of thrilling overtime win against Butler on Friday evening. Five St. John's players finished in double figures including a team-high 20 points for Alissa Alston who went 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. Following a slow offensive start for both programs, the Johnnies and the Bulldogs combined for 78 points over the final 15 minutes, as the Red Storm secured the win, 85-80.
With 85 points against Butler, the Johnnies have now recorded 80 or more points in seven games this year. As a team, St. John's has been an offensive force all season, averaging 72.9 points per game for the team's best scoring output since the 1994-95 campaign. St. John's is shooting the rock at an efficient clip, leading the BIG EAST in three-point field goal percentage at a 35.6 percent mark while sitting second in field goal percentage at 43.6.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Melanie Moore, Xavier has struggled during conference play as the Musketeers enter their final game of the season with a conference record of 2-15. Despite its mark in BIG EAST action, A'riana Gray is leading the way for Xavier. The junior forward is just shy of averaging a double-double on the season with 16.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
Sunday will mark the 14th all-time meeting between the Red Storm and the Musketeers with St. John's holding an 11-2 advantage, including a 6-0 mark in Queens. In the two team's last meeting at the beginning of league play, Qadashah Hoppie led the way for the Red Storm with 18 points 7-of-14 shooting from the floor. For the Musketeers, Gray went off for a team-high 20 points and six boards in Xavier's, 75-67, setback to St. John's.
Following Sunday's contest, the Red Storm will travel to Chicago for the BIG EAST Tournament at Wintrust Arena. Seeding, which dictates game times and opponents, will be decided after the final day of regular-season play.
