St. John’s Falls to Undefeated Dartmouth, 4-1

The Red Storm suffers its second loss of the season, fall to 8-2 on the year
HANOVER, N.H. (Feb. 8, 2020) – The St. John's men's tennis team suffered its second loss of the season Saturday night, falling to undefeated Dartmouth on the road, 4-1, at the Boss Tennis Center in Hanover, N.H.
The Red Storm and the Big Green split the first two doubles contests to force a decisive third match. After Udayan Bhakar and Aditya Vashistha dropped their tilt on the No. 3 court to Dartmouth's Anders Gibbons and Dan Martin, 6-3, the duo of Ognjen Trejgut and Ignacio Garcia evened the match on the No. 1 court, defeating Peter Conklin and Casey Ross, 6-4. The Red Storm earned a 1-0 lead with a win in the No. 2 bout as Louis-nils Michel and Djuro Opacic sealed a hard-fought battle against Charlie Broom and Pierce Widdecombe, 7-6(11).
In singles play, Dartmouth sealed the first four matches to clinch the 4-1 victory. Dan Martin defeated Bhakar, 6-3, 6-0, to gain the first point. Peter Conklin knocked off Michel in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Dartmouth extended its lead to 3-1 with a win on the No. 6 court as Anders Gibbons bounced Opacic, 6-3, 6-2.
The Big Green sealed the victory with a three-set victory in the No. 5 bout as Garcia fell to Widdecombe, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6.
Vashistha and Tregjut's matches in the No. 1 and No. 4 slots went unfinished.
Head Coach Dillon Pottish's squad will square off with Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. ET at Mount Auburn Club in Watertown, Mass.
