St. John’s Awaits Boston University and Bryant This Weekend

The Johnnies look to get back in the win column with road victories in New England
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 14, 2020) – After splitting a pair of contests against East Carolina and Dartmouth last weekend, the St. John's men's tennis team returns to action this weekend with two road tilts in New England.
The Johnnies will start their weekend with a match against Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. ET, followed by a meeting with Bryant on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
The Red Storm enter Saturday's bout with an 8-2 overall record, earning a 4-3 victory over East Carolina before suffering a 4-1 loss to Dartmouth last Saturday.
Aditya Vashistha, last week's BIG EAST Tennis Athlete of the Week and No. 40 player in the Oracle/ITA Rankings, is coming off another successful weekend as he finished with a win in the No. 1 slot against East Carolina's Diogo Marques Friday night. The Bikaner, India, native heads into the weekend road trip undefeated in the top singles flight.
Head Coach Dillon Pottish's team has been dominant in singles play throughout the 2020 campaign, holding a 34-16 record in its first 10 contests. Udayan Bhakar and Ignacio Garcia have provided a huge boost behind Vashistha, accounting for 14 of the Red Storm's 34 singles victories so far this season.
The Johnnies have been just as impressive in doubles play this spring, capturing victories in 21 of their 26 total bouts. Garcia and Ognjen Trejgut have been unsurpassed so far in their five No. 1 doubles contests. Vashistha and Bhakar have racked up wins in five of their seven doubles tilts on the No. 3 court.
St. John's will play a Boston University squad that comes into Saturday's contest with a 2-2 record, recently falling to Dartmouth, 6-1, on Feb. 1. The Terriers are led by junior David Bogatin who has a 3-1 record and Boston University's lone victory in the No. 1 singles slot. The junior lost his first match of the season in the No. 1 bout against the Big Green's Charlie Broom in straight sets. Max Hartenstein is the only Terrier, other than Bogatin, that has more than one victory in 2020.
On Sunday, the Johnnies will travel to Cumberland, R.I., for a morning clash with Bryant at Fore Court. The Bulldogs have won its last two matches heading into the weekend, including a 5-1 victory over Army on Sunday, Feb. 9. Alexander Schou and J.I. Ortiz-Garcia lead Bryant with four wins this spring.
After its two tilts with Boston U and Bryant this weekend, St. John's will continue its seven-match road swing next weekend with two road contests against BIG EAST foes Xavier and Butler on Friday, Feb. 21, and Sunday, Feb. 23, respectively.
