The Johnnies get back on the win column, improve to 9-2 on the year
WATERTOWN, Mass. (Feb. 15, 2020) – The St. John's men's tennis team picked up its ninth win of the 2020 campaign with a 4-0 sweep over Boston University on Saturday in Watertown, Mass.
Saturday's victory marks the fifth match that the men's tennis program has prevented its opponent from winning a single contest this season.
The Red Storm clinched the first point of the evening with two doubles wins on the No. 1 and 2 courts. Louis-nils Michel and Djuro Opacic knocked off Boston University's Kriill Belov and Max Hartenstein in the No. 2 slot, 6-2. St. John's claimed the second doubles triumph on the No. 1 court as Charlie James and Ignacio Garcia defeated David Bogatin and Owen Lu, 6-4.
The Red Storm continued its impressive play in singles play, cruising to the 4-0 win over the Terriers by claiming victories in the first three bouts. Giuseppe De Camelis secured his sixth singles triumph of the season, defeating No. 4 Marc Sable, 6-4, 6-0.
No. 40 Aditya Vashistha sealed the Johnnies' second singles triumph of the day, bouncing David Bogatin in the No. 1 slot, 7-6, 6-4.
James clinched the victory for Red Storm in the third set of his No. 4 matchup, narrowly edging Max Hartenstein, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1. Michel, Garcia, and Igor Maslov's singles matches went unfinished in the No. 2, 3, and 6 slots, respectively.
Head Coach Dillon Pottish's squad will travel to Cumberland, R.I., for its second match in New England on Sunday, Feb. 16, to square off with Bryant at 10 a.m. ET.
