St. John’s to Battle Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday

Red Storm racked up a trio of wins on the West Coast
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 10, 2020) – The St. John's softball team will look to snap its two-game skid when the team heads to Teaneck, N.J., for a matchup with Fairleigh Dickinson at 3:30 p.m.
Historically, St. John's has dominated FDU in the all-time series, posting a 10-2 record against its cross-state rival. The Red Storm has scored at least eight runs in six of the team's 12 meetings dating back to 2003. The Johnnies have won by 11 runs on two occasions, routing the Knights, 11-0, on April 16, 2003, and, 15-4, on April 19, 2007.
St. John's and Fairleigh Dickinson have not faced each other in the regular season since the 2016 campaign. In the Johnnies' 8-0 victory over FDU on March 18, 2016, recent graduate and reigning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year Madison Morris delivered a four-hit shutout over the Knights while striking out six batters.
The Red Storm is coming off of a 3-4 road trip on the West Coast that included wins over Long Beach State, Mount St. Mary's and a streak-snapper over San Jose State. The Johnnies wiped out the Spartans' then-NCAA-leading 17-game winning stretch with a 3-2 victory.
Additionally, during its seven-game trip in The Golden State, the Johnnies' turned nine double plays, including a pair against defending National Champion UCLA.
St. John's defense has turned two 14 times this season, tying California and No. 9/8 Florida State. UTEP sits atop the NCAA with 21 twin-killings, followed by Tennessee with 16 and Florida and Wichita State tied for third with 15.
The Knights (4-11) are coming off of a difficult weekend at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, going 1-4 with its lone win coming against Delaware State by a score of 4-3.
Junior Madison Emerson has emerged as the offensive leader for FDU, batting .349 with 15 hits, a pair of home runs and seven runs scored. Alayna Savaglio and Abby England have been the leading starters in the circle but, have struggled through the early going, accounting for a combined two wins and 74 strikeouts in 56.2 innings of work.
Following its matchup with the Knights, the Johnnies will conclude its 23-game road trip and return to Queens for the first time in 2020 when the team takes on Hofstra, Hartford, Holy Cross and Connecticut at the St. John's Invitational, beginning on Friday.
