St. John’s will begin its season on Feb. 6
Entering his 26th season at helm of the St. John's fencing program, Head Coach Yury Gelman has released his team's schedule for the month of February.
Â
The Red Storm will begin its season on Feb. 6 when it welcomes Boston College to Queens at 9:30 a.m.
Â
The following weekend, the Red Storm will hit the road for the first time, traveling to Madison, N.J., for a match with Rangers of Drew University on Feb. 14.
Â
One week later on Feb. 21, the Johnnies will head to the City of Brotherly Love where they will fence in the Temple Invitational. The event is scheduled to feature Temple, Penn State, John Hopkins, and New Jersey Institute of Technology. Last year at the Temple Invitational the men's fencing team went undefeated, as the foil squad led the way with 31 wins and three of the four foil specialists finished with winning records. The women's team went 2-3 on the day, as fifth-year senior Katarzyna Lachman and sophomore Arianna Pappone help led the way with a combined 28 victories.  Â
Â
The Red Storm is set to return several All-Americans from its 2020 squad, led the first teamers Ivan Zagiruiko and Andrea Rizzi. The Red Storm will also welcome back four All-America Second Team selections (Nathan Vaysberg, Jan Jurkiewicz, Nicole Gavrilko, Arianna Pappone) and a pair of honorable mention honorees (Maxime Tarasiewicz and Sal Centanni).
