Bouzgarrou in singles, de Lucas and Nielsen in doubles, to compete at Princeton
A trio of St. John's women's tennis players have punched their ticket to represent the Red Storm against the Northeast region's finest, as Mouna Bouzgarrou, Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen are slated to compete at ITA Super Regionals this weekend in Princeton, N.J.
Bouzgarrou was one of eight singles qualifiers to emerge from the 96-player bracket at the ITA Regionals at Army. The senior strung together three wins, including a hard-fought victory over Yale's Mirabelle Bretkelly (6-3,4-6,10-8) to clinch her spot at Super Regionals.
The NJIT transfer now moves into a 32-player single-elimination bracket at Princeton. The participants are comprised of eight qualifiers from each Regional at Army and Penn, 14 automatic qualifiers and two host-selected wild cards. Bouzgarrou carries a six-match win streak into the event and remains undefeated in a St. John's uniform.
De Lucas and Nielsen have made their way into the 16-team doubles bracket after toppling four teams in West Point. In their final match at Regionals, the pair outlasted UConn's Julieanne Bou and Leonnie Hope 8-7 (4) to ink their names on the Super Regionals draw sheet.
The doubles tournament will consist of the four top teams from each of the two Regionals, seven automatic qualifiers and one host wild card. Both singles and doubles competitions are scheduled to run from Oct. 15-18, at the Cordish Family Pavilion and Lenz Tennis Center.
