The Red Storm will compete in Princeton’s home meet for the first time since 2015
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's cross country team will travel to Princeton, N.J., to take part in the Princeton Invitational on Saturday at West Windsor Fields. The 6.17k race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m..
"This will be the largest and most competitive field we've faced on an excellent course which will serve us well heading into the conference championship in a couple of weeks," said Head Coach Elliott Blount. "We really need a better spread from third place on, and that will be our focus this Saturday."
Saturday's race will be the largest meet in which the Red Storm has competed this season in terms of field size with 22 teams separate teams competing, St. John's will go up against crosstown rivals Columbia and Fordham in addition to schools from around the country like Mississippi State and UC San Diego.
At last week's Metropolitan Championship, Mia Forster led the way for the Red Storm, finishing in second place and setting a career best time in the 5k race (19:26.1).
Despite developing blisters on both of her heels, Claire Cushing still managed to record yet another top-10 finish at Van Cortlandt Park last week. Cushing hopes to add to her solid season with another positive result in the first 6.17k race of her career.
Hannah Huleatt is coming off her best race of her young career last week at the Metropolitan Championship. The sophomore out of Rifton, N.Y., is poised to finish strong once again against top level competition.
After missing the Metropolitan Championship due to calf tightness, Katherine Bruno is looking to return to the course and secure her third top-five finish this fall.
Jenna D'Onofrio and Tiffany-Ann Matturro will also compete in the Red Storm's fourth race of the season. D'Onofrio posted her best time as a collegiate athlete last week at Van Cortlandt Park while Matturro improved her season best 5k time by nearly a minute at the Metropolitan Championship.
