The Red Storm returns to Van Cortlandt Park for the second time this season
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's cross country team will take part in the Metropolitan Championship on Friday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. The 5K race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
The Johnnies return to the famed hills of Van Cortlandt Park looking to build on a second-place team finish earlier this season at the Fordham Fiasco.
For the third straight meet, St. John's will compete against Fordham. The Red Storm finished ahead of the Rams by two places its last time out at the Jasper Invite. Along with Fordham, the Johnnies will compete against BIG EAST foe Seton Hall and local rival Columbia for the first time this fall.
Junior Claire Cushing continues to lead the way for the Red Storm. The Ontario native has paced the Johnnies in both of the team's races to start the season and will return to the site of her individual victory on September 11.
Katherine Bruno has established herself as the clear-cut number two runner behind Cushing with a pair of races under her belt. The graduate student out of Tucson, Ariz., has posted two consecutive top-five finishes overall and finished third in her last trip to Van Cortland.
Graduate transfer Mia Forster has been a welcome addition to the team, finishing in top-15 in both of her races this season. She will look to bolster her strong start to the campaign with another solid run in the Bronx.
Joining the top trio of Cushing, Bruno and Forster will be Hannah Huleatt, Tiffany-Ann Matturro and Jenna D'Onofrio, who are all looking to improve upon their first two meets of the year and propel the Red Storm to a third-straight top-three finish.
