St. John’s Takes Second at Metropolitan Championship

The Red Storm turns in a third straight top-three performance
BRONX, N.Y.- The St. John's cross country team put up another strong performance on Friday morning, taking second at the Metropolitan Championship at Van Cortlandt Park.
Friday's finish marked the Johnnies' best ever result at the event which dates back to 1985 and hosts the top schools in the metropolitan area.
Fordham took first place, but the Red Storm beat out BIG EAST foe Seton Hall and local rival Columbia to bring home second place for the second time this season.
Graduate transfer Mia Forster led the way for the Red Storm and finished second overall, posting a season-best time of 19:26.1, just six seconds behind Fordham's Bridget Alex.
Claire Cushing turned in another solid performance despite the heat and humidity in the Bronx. The junior out of Ontario finished seventh overall with a time of 19:55.9.
Sophomore Hannah Huleatt shaved more than 30 seconds off her time at the Fordham Fiasco to finish in 12th place with a time of 20:16. This marks the third consecutive meet that the Johnnies have had three runners place in the top 15 overall.
Jenna D'Onofrio and Tiffany-Ann Matturro rounded out the scoring for the Red Storm. D'Onofrio finished in 43rd place with a time of 22:05.4 while Matturro finished close behind with a time of 22:29.7, good for 46th place.
Sophomore Zamira Ysaac made her season debut for St. John's. The Scotch Plains, N.J., native finished with a time of 24:14.7, which gave her 55th place overall.
Katherine Bruno did not compete on Friday morning due to calf tightness.
The Red Storm will return to action on Saturday, October 16 when they travel to Princeton, N.J., to compete in the Princeton Invitational.
