The Red Storm will look to carry over momentum from successful opening weekend
The St. John's fencing program will look to continue its hot start to the 2021 season when it travels to Drew University on Sunday.
Last week the Red Storm won its opening match against Boston College by taking three of the four rounds. The women's team lost its first round, but was able to rally and win in the second round by a score of 15-12.
2020 NCAA Regional Silver Medalist Andrea Rizzi and freshman Fanni Potz-Nagy both led the way with undefeated records. Sophomore Nicole Gavrilko tacked on five more victories with one loss for the women's epee team.
Sophomore Karol Lademann and senior Fares Ferjani each claimed four victories for the men's saber team against the Golden Eagles. Freshmen Jack Bell and Alan Slavinsky both picked up their first colligate win for the men's epee squad while First Team All-American Ivan Zagoruiko led the way with three tallies.
Last week, Drew University opened up its season with a mini-series against Sacred Heart, as the Rangers finished the day with a 3-2 record. Two freshmen stole the day, as saber specialist Michael Parkhurst won five times on the stripe and epee fencer Lorence Lukanyuk capped off his collegiate debut with six victories.
Following tomorrow's match, the Johnnies will travel to the city of brotherly love on Sunday Feb. 21 to compete in the Temple Invitational.
