Three of the Red Storm’s event squads went undefeated on Sunday
Madison, N.J. (Feb. 14, 2021) – St. John's men's and women's fencing team captured all four of its rounds against Drew University on Sunday, as 12 fencers went undefeated in their respective events.
Freshman saber specialist Fanni Potz-Nagy continues to stay unbeaten in her collegiate career, posting another six wins for the second week in a row. Fifth-year fencer Karolina Kaleta and sophomore Salome Rodgers combined for 12 victories for a team-leading 18 triumphs.
USFCA Second Team All-American Arianna Pappone made her season debut as she picked up six wins for the women's foil team. The Latina, Italy, native is coming off a sophomore season where she posted a 44-16 record and secured a third-place finish at the Northeast Regionals. Sophomore Zahida Khan racked up three additional victories to give the women's foil team nine total wins for the day.
Sophomore sensation Nicole Gavrilko went undefeated on the stripe for the women's epee team with Oliva Krick also collecting five wins. In Melanie Dolgonos season debut she collected three triumphs with one loss and Andrea Rizzi picked up two more wins for their squad.
The men's team was led by freshman foil specialist Cesar Colon with his six wins for the day, as Jan Jurkiewicz and Niklas Holland each posted at least four victories, to give the squad a 15-3 record.
The men's saber team had Karol Lademann and Dalton Walker each win four of their matches, with Walker losing just one. Veterans Sal Centanni and Fares Ferjani combined for six tallies with Mark Dammer adding on two more for the team.
Ivan Zagoruiko sustained his stellar form this season with three triumphs in epee, but Nathan Vaysberg would led the epee team with four victories. Three other epee specialist Maksym Kariuchenko, Alan Slavinsky and Jack Bell would tally up a combined seven wins to give the squad 14 victories for the day.

Head Coach Yury Gelmen will lead his team to the yearly Temple Invitational in Philadelphia, PA. on Sunday Feb. 21 where they will compete against some of the most prestigious fencing schools in the country.
