BLACKSBURG, Va. (Feb. 20, 2021) – The St. John's track & field team earned two first-place finishes in the 400 meters and the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
Leah Anderson captured a win in the 400 meters, sitting on top of the podium with a time of 55.18. The senior sprinter joined Avon Samuels, Skyy Diop and Brianna Burkley 90 minutes later in the 4x400-meter relay where the squad took first place with a mark of 3:52.34.
"Winning our two events after not competing for nearly a year shows the talent and hard work our team has put in during this pandemic," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "It's great to see St. John's continue to be at the top of the podium."
This was the 4x400-meter relay team's first race since securing a gold medal last season at the 2020 ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships. The squad posted a personal best time of 3:37.72 at the meet.
Saturday marked Anderson's second race of 2021 after she registered a personal best mark of 1:12.94 in the 500 meters at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Feb. 13.
