St. John’s Shines at Villanova Dual Meet

The Red Storm picked up four first-place finishes
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (March 5, 2021) – The St. John's track & field team racked up four first-place finishes and 11 podium spots at the Villanova Dual Meet on Friday afternoon.
Senior sprinter Leah Anderson kicked off the meet by taking first place in the 60-meter dash with a personal best time of 7.49. Anderson was just .07 seconds shy of tying the program record of 7.42, set by Shernette Hyatt-Davis in 2004. Senior Onassha Rogers also earned third place in the event with a mark of 7.81.
Anderson secured her second first-place finish of the meet in the 200 meters with a time of 24.88. Avon Samuels joined her teammate on the podium, finishing in second place with a mark of 25.36.
Anderson broke the program record for the indoor 200 meters last year at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, recording a time of 23.54.
Juniors Amanda Belgrave and Samantha Morillo captured the final two first-place finishes for the Red Storm in the triple jump and weight throw. Belgrave notched a jump of 11.25 meters, while Morillo recorded a personal best throw of 16.72 meters.
Senior Amarys Berry took second place in the weight throw with a mark of 15.92 meters.
St. John's weight throw team ranked 39th in the country last week in the USTFCCCA event squad polls.
Morillo and Berry also secured second and third-place finishes in the shot put with marks of 14.24 and 14.18, respectively.
Junior sprinter Skyy Diop took fourth place in the 400 meters with a time of 57.20. Anderson finished behind Diop with a mark of 57.59, eight minutes after competing in the 60-meter dash.
Freshman Zamira Ysaac earned a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.44, while Rushellee Jones took second in the high jump, clearing a mark of 1.55 meters.
