The Johnnies will kick off the 2021 outdoor season with the Fordham Invitational this Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 19, 2021) – St. John's Track & Field Head Coach Jim Hurt has announced the outdoor schedule for the 2021 season.
The Johnnies will kick off their outdoor campaign this Saturday with the Fordham Invitational at Icahn Stadium. The team will have 29 athletes competing in 16 different events.
"We are looking forward to our first outdoor track & field meet in over a year at the Fordham Invite," said Hurt. "We have a talented and experienced team in all event areas who have continued to train hard over the past year, despite not having competitions since the 2020 indoor season. We are excited to see what the team can do to kick off the 2021 outdoor track & field season."
Seniors Nina D'Amato, Esmeralda Reyes and Olivia Pantale will begin the meet for the Red Storm with the women's javelin at 10 a.m. Reyes earned a silver medal in the javelin throw at the 2019 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, securing a spot on the All-BIG EAST Outdoor Team.
Amarys Berry and Samantha Morillo will participate in the shot put at 11:30 a.m. This marks the duo's first outdoor meet since capturing first and third-place honors for their throws at the 2019 conference outdoor championships.
Brooklyn Chestnut, Leah Anderson, Avon Samuels and Onassha Rogers will team up for the 4x100-meter relay while Brianna Burkley and Skyy Diop will each participate in the 400 meters at 1:45 p.m.
The Red Storm will host its seventh annual Tom Farrell Classic on Saturday, May 1 at DaSilva Field. The meet honors St. John's great and two-time record holder Tom Farrell, who earned a bronze medal in the 1968 Olympic Games and is one of the most accomplished athletes in program history.
St. John's is set to compete at the Metropolitan Championship, taking place on April 9-10. The Red Storm also hosts the St. John's invitational on April 16. The two meets will both be held at Ichan Stadium.
The Johnnies return to action the following week when the team travels to West Point for the Army Invitational on April 23.
After hosting the Tom Farrell Classic, the Johnnies take part in their final meet of the season on May 14-15 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. The location of the meet will be announced at a later date.
The NCAA East Preliminary Championships will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 27-29 at Hodges Stadium. Anderson was the lone Johnnie to participate in the NCAA East Regional during the 2019 season, finishing 28th overall in the 400 meters and 42nd overall in the 200-meter dash.
The top performers from the preliminary rounds will advance to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships. The four-day meet will be held on June 9-12 at Hayward Field.
