STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Mar. 26, 2021) – As the male portion of the competition came to a close at the NCAA Fencing Championships on Friday, saber fencer Dalton Walker and foilist Cesar Colon highlighted the Red Storm's efforts by earning First Team All-America honors.
Colon, a freshman, captured 16 victories on the piste in the tournament. Colon met Marcello Olivares of Notre Dame in the semifinal round, falling to the eventual national champion, 15-9. The Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, native earned First Team All-America honors by virtue of his third place finish.
Walker, a senior from Brooklyn, won 18 of his 23 bouts in the NCAA Championship round and outscored his opponents by 32 touches. Walker was defeated in the men's saber semifinals, 15-6, by Luke Linder of Notre Dame, who went on to become the NCAA Champion. Also competing in men's foil was senior Maxime Tarasiewicz, who made his NCAA Championship debut. The Wroclaw, Poland native, ended his collegiate career with a 14th place finish and 11 wins on the stripe.
Rounding out the men's team's performance was epee specialist Nathan Vaysberg, a 2020 USFCA Second Team All-American, who claimed 17th place with nine victories.
