Cesar Colon Places Ninth at Junior World Championships

The freshman won all of his pool bouts
CAIRO, EGYPT (April 11, 2021) – Competing against the top fencers in the world, St. John's freshman foil fencer and 2021 NCAA First Team All-American Cesar Colon finished in ninth place this weekend at the Junior World Championships.
Colon went a perfect 5-0 in pool play and outscored his opponents by 17 touches. The exceptional performance by the freshman in pool play earned him the No. 13 seed in the table of 128.
Following a first-round bye, the Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico native cruised in his first duel with a 15-6 victory in the Round of 64. In the next round, Colon was tested by Akhmadillokhon Solikhojiev of Uzbekistan throughout the bout but came away with a 15-11 triumph.
With a chance to advance to the Quarterfinal Round, Colon fell to Stepan Martynovich of Russia, 15-10, finishing in ninth place in the Junior World Championships. Colon's ninth-place finish marks the best performance of his career at the competition.
