QUEENS, N.Y. (May 11, 2021) – After qualifying for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Championships on Thursday, Eleftheria Christogeorgou has been named the BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Christogeorgou earned her qualifying mark at the West Point Twilight Meet, clearing a height of 1.78 meters in the high jump to capture first place. Her mark currently ranks 37th in the nation and 19th on the East Region qualifying list. It also sits in third place on the BIG EAST leaderboard this season.
Christogeorgou's performance is the third highest outdoor mark in program history, passing Kesha Roberts' height of 1.77 meters that was set in 1991.
The senior high jumper surpassed her first-place performance at the Tom Farrell Classic where she cleared 1.70 meters. Christogeorgou's mark is the top height ever recorded by an athlete in the meet's history.
Christogeorgou also posted a mark of 1.83 meters back home at the Greek Indoor National Championships in February, becoming the second Johnnie in school history to clear the six-foot bar behind St. John's alumna and 2016 Olympian Priscilla Frederick.
The Red Storm will resume competition on May 14-15 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
