Red Storm graduate student earns the honor for the fourth time in her illustrious career
QUEENS, N.Y. – Jessica Livianu was named to the 2021 All-BIG EAST First Team for the fourth time in her illustrious career with the Red Storm, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon.
"It has been such an honor and pleasure to represent St. John's the last five years," said Livianu, reflecting on the honor and her time in Queens. "The program overall has positively impacted my life on and off the court and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent the University as best I could with my abilities and to be a Johnny for life!"
The Red Storm graduate student posted a 3-1 overall record in 2021, as she competed in four BIG EAST contests on the No. 1 court. Livianu dominated each of her matches just two weeks ago at the BIG EAST Tournament as well, winning both of her singles matches in straight sets. Additionally, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native went undefeated in doubles play this season, posting a 3-0 record.
Two of Livianu's three victories in BIG EAST play this season came against opponents that received All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. The Red Storm's top player defeated Julianne Bou of Connecticut, 6-1 and 6-4, in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals before dropping Xavier's Kat Lyman, 6-3 and 6-4, in the semifinals.
Livianu goes down as the most decorated player in program history, having now received the All-BIG EAST First Team honor four times as well as winning the BIG EAST Player of the Year award in each of her freshman, sophomore and junior campaigns. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native is the only student-athlete in the history of the program to win Player of the Year three times. The graduate student also received Freshman of the Year honors in 2017, as she helped lead the Red Storm to the BIG EAST Championship match.
Livianu concludes her collegiate career with an overall record of 73-7 in singles, as she was ranked as high as No. 22 by the ITA back in 2017. The graduate of Laurel Springs High School advanced to the NCAA DI Individual Singles Championships in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns while also being ranked as high as No. 5 in the Northeast region.
The three-time BIG EAST Player of the Year will now carry her hardware into a professional career, as she is currently ranked in the top 700 in the world. She will graduate from St. John's with multiple degrees as well.
