Svoboda turns in a three-day total of 10-under 200
Former St. John's golfer Andrew Svoboda carded a final round 2-under 68 to claim the 106th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway at Hudson National Golf Club on Thursday.
Â
Svoboda's win was the third Met Open Championship of his career, as the former Johnnie hoisted the hardware in 2003 and again in 2008. Svoboda joins Darrell Kestner, Wes Ellis, Macdonald Smith, Mark Brown, Walter Hagen and Alex Smith (4) as the only three-time champions in the 106-year history of the Met Open.
Â
Svoboda's final round performance was highlighted by a pair of birdies on holes 15 and 16 to put space between himself and runner-up Tom Lovelady of Silo Ridge.
Â
The 2001 BIG EAST Champion finished under par in each of the three rounds at Hudson National. He signed off on a three-day total of 10-under 200, matching the lowest 54-hole score in Met Open history, tying Matt Dobyns' mark in the 104th Met Open at Piping Rock.
Â
The New Rochelle native had one of the most decorated collegiate careers at St. John's history, winning 14 individual titles over his time with the Red Storm.
Â
Former St. John's golfers, Peter Ballo and Mark Costanza also participated in the Met Open, each carding a three-round total of 1-under 209 to finish in a tie for sixth.
